Welcome to the Charlestown Cooperative Nursery School (CCNS). We are an innovative early learning center in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston. As a cooperative, we not only allow for parent involvement, but have built a school where parents can support in administrative work so teachers can focus all their energy on developing the richest curriculum. Founded by a group of parents and educators in 2007, we began with an exceptional 3-morning-a-week preschool program for children ages 2.9-4. In September 2008, we are expanding our preschool program to two classes and opening a 2-morning-a-week toddler program. We have also tried to redefine how a school can serve a community by offering developmental play groups for ages 1-2.9 and community enrichment for children 0-5. As we grow, we are always evolving to reflect the needs of the community and the best possible practice. Our work is thoughtfully inspired by research and best practice education with a particular influence from the Reggio-Emilia approach.

We hope to introduce you to our programs through this website, and we encourage you to visit us in person to see our school come to life.

“Every decision that is made, big or small, from the number of days in the program to the cleaning supplies that are used, is made in the best interest of children -- with research and experience as the guide.” Parent
